Walking Meditation

This is an excerpt from the weekly News-Loveletter. If you would like it sent to your inbox directly (with all the other juicy bits, including a mini joy practice), you can add yourself to my mailing list here.

1600 people strong, our Dr. Joe ensemble gathered at daybreak three mornings in a row. The peninsula park no doubt felt our weight and lightness of being.

We brought our everything. People of all ages stood with hands over their hearts, listening to Dr. Joe’s words through headphones and earbuds, all of us following the same meditation. Dr. Joe himself walked amongst us with warmth and curiosity.

Teams of volunteers in white hats guarded our steps. Those who stood or walked in trance and lost track of traffic or their balance fell into safe and loving arms. People danced, gazed at the bay in trance, and laid down at the end to receive the love in rest.

It’s not enough to just feel a new way of being, Dr. Joe points out. We have to be it, walk as it, talk as it. I couldn’t agree more. If the flow of love opens within us only in meditation, we miss the boat.

Meditation is a powerful vehicle to find it, but that vehicle is not imperative. Dr. Joe quoted a student, healing his body from ALS, who said, “I notice the more love I feel, the more I heal.” Dr. Joe added “He didn’t say, ‘the more I meditate’ — no, he said, ‘the more I open my heart.’”

I love this point. As someone who teaches daily practices for our conscious life, I’m happy to hear support for what I find crucial: Our health and wellness depends on living love around the clock.

How are you doing with this? If you want help, I invite you to join the Joy Collective in our live classes here, in the recorded series here, or in the recorded series with office hours here. Because living the love will change your life.
