Morning Glory

This is an excerpt from the weekly News-Loveletter. If you would like it sent to your inbox directly (with all the other juicy bits, including a mini joy practice), you can add yourself to my mailing list here.

Before sitting down to write to you with my cat cuddled into an heirloom blanket on my lap, I went for a jog in the woods. And before that, I brushed my teeth at sunrise, which followed a 15-minute meditation and 15 minutes of priming. Honestly, with a mug of hot water sitting beside me now and all of you in my heart, there is no greater morning glory. And afterwards, I get to teach a Joy Collective class beginning at ten! An abundance of glory is mine.

Nonetheless, this Morning Glory I snapped a picture of in my garden between the above activities is right up there on the special-meter. I love the intense blue-violet of its petals, especially by contrast to the orange and yellow nasturtiums around. I intended just this color-riot when planting the two together a couple of years ago. Since then, I’ve not reseeded. This domestic variety of Morning Glory is not as hyper-invasive as its bindweed cousin, but it’s definitely enthusiastic. I pulled every seedling I saw through June so that they didn’t take over by September. Beauty is in the balance, don’t you think?

When did you last start something that continued far beyond your expectations? How did you feel about that?
