Crocus

This is an excerpt from the weekly News-Loveletter. If you would like it sent to your inbox directly (with all the other juicy bits, including a mini joy practice), you can add yourself to my mailing list here.

It’s kind of a shocker that the sun rises every morning, when you think about it. We don’t, of course. We’re quite used to the miracle of our planet spinning us out of darkness into the presence of an object so bright that it brings our entire world to light. Because we see the sun every day, we forget to see it at all.

That’s one of the reasons I appreciate Crocus. We go from walking across winter’s carpet of grey, green, and brown, to one day nearly stepping on a riot of purple and gold. How does that happen?

Crocus is brave. She gussies up and braves her way into the cold and dark to give notice that change is imminent, that anything can happen. She kindles faith within us that breath-taking beauty is just around the corner.

Love is like that too, you know. One minute life is dull, and the next, you’re wackadoodle in love — with a dog, a person, a flower, life itself. Thank goodness. And thank you, Crocus, for reminding us to pay attention.
