A Commitment Before Dawn

“Do I have your word,” said Dr. Joe Dispenza, “that you will do your best in this meditation? That you won’t suffer through it?” These words jolted me awake. At 5:10 in the morning, about to begin a 3+ hour meditation, I had just been wondering if I could forgive myself for falling asleep in the lay-down portion, after 4.5 hours rest the night before.
Dispenza entreated us to bring our best — our highest vibration and concentrated effort — so we we would be less likely to find ourselves fighting our thoughts, our desire to sleep, our well-worn grooves of mediocrity. In a flash, I knew he was right. If I did my best work, the meditation would be more blissful, less uncomfortable, and I would feel more proud after.
Gathering the appropriate level of energy for the task, whether meditation or going in to the office, is like coming with appropriate gear for an adventure. How much does our deep joy and satisfaction matter to us? We cannot go the extra mile unless we make the effort to match what we are bringing to where we are going.
What inspires you to bring your best energy to a challenging situation? Do you find surprising ease when you prime yourself for a positive experience and go all in?
